Major Activities:
6/2007 - present
Negotiate with indexing services about including Springer journals in
their systems. Preparing journals for the evaluation by various
indexing services to increase chances of acceptance. Alert indexing
services to problems and mistakes. Help editors to improve their
journals for better coverage by indexing services.
3/1992 - 6/2007
Project management for the Astrophysics Data System. Development of
specialized database system for the ADS abstract service. Development of WWW
services and a WWW interface to the ADS abstract service and to a large set of
scanned images. Coordination of the efforts to scan most of the astronomical
literature and make it available on-line through the WWW. Programming in C and
Perl. Development of WWW HTML documents (see http://ads.harvard.edu).
9/1991 - 2/1992
Developing command procedures for the Hubble Space Telescope on a VAX/VMS.
Programming of data base software.
6/1989 - 8/1991
Speckle interferometry with a photon counting MAMA camera.
Design and development of a photon counting MAMA camera system and its control
and data recording computer.
Design and development of microprocessor-based instrument controller system
software and hardware. Operating systems used are UNIX on a Sun 4 host and
Wind Rivers VxWorks on the target system. Network programming between the
systems.
The microprocessor hardware was based on the VMEbus.

1/1984 - 5/1989
Measurements of gamma rays from Supernova 1987A with a balloon born gamma ray
telescope.
Design and development of microprocessor-based laboratory and flight instrument
controller system software and hardware. Operating systems used were VAX/VMS,
UNIX, OS/9 (UNIX like realtime system), RT 11 (DEC realtime system), and
Motorola VERSAdos (realtime system). The microprocessor hardware was based
mainly on the VMEbus.
Research and development of user friendly computer interfaces (graphics, touch
screen, color etc).
Design and development of two Space Shuttle-based gamma ray experiments.
Reduction of data from the Halley Optical Probe Experiment flown on the ESA
space probe GIOTTO.
Image processing software packages used are IRAF and MIDAS.

factory inventory and parts retrieval.
Programming in C, FORTRAN and Assembler.
Programming of data base software.
8/1979 - 11/1981
Design and development of the Zodiacal Light Experiment to be flown on the
International Solar Polar Mission (NASA part was later cancelled) and its
ground support equipment (optical system, microprocessor hardware and
software).
Programming in Assembler.
4/1977 - 7/1979
