GENESIS COMPETITION FLIGHT EXPERIENCE
1995 U.S. STANDARD CLASS NATIONALS

We came to this contest hoping to learn how the Genesis compared to the
best of the Standard Class. While our standing on the score sheet is
not what we would have chosen, we are pleased with the performance.
Here are a few comments from several competing pilots:

- Ray Gimmey, who also had flown the Genesis, calls the Genesis,
"a Discus killer."

- Chip Garner flew the ship on a non-contest day and worked weak
lift, and he had this to say, "Handling is great, it is docile,
not pitch sensitive, easy to control speed in a thermal."

- Claudio Ponte also flew the ship the same day as Chip and said
the cockpit was comfortable and the glider was "easy to fly."

- Rick Walters told us "the prototype is a competitive standard
class glider that climbs good and runs good."

- Clem Bowman, had a 55 minute flight in the Genesis and can
hardly wait to receive his own Genesis kit.
One of the interesting things we learned was that the Genesis is able
to fly at about two pounds lower wing loading and still climb and run
with the Discus. Every one agrees that at 80 knots, the Genesis
outruns the Discus at two pounds per square foot lower wing loading.
The production Genesis will have a wing loding range of 5.8-9.0+, the
protype had a wing loding range of 7.2-9.0.
It took Karl a few flights to get comfortable flying the Genesis. All
of the pilots had problems on the marginal weather days this year, and
every pilot had at least one off-field landing. The two off-field
landings were in mowed hay fields and presented no problem When Karl
did finish, he got first and second..
The current external shape of the Genesis is fixed and will represent
what the kits will look like. We will make a few internal changes to
systems which will lighten and simpilfy the design. At the same time
we will start the process of making production molds. We want to be
able to ship kits in the first quarter of 1996. The equipped aircraft
should weigh 520 pounds ready to fly. The wing panels a expected
weigh 130 pounds each. The kit price is still at 25,900 dollars, U.S
. We are working with Dick Collier of Collier Aviation Services, in
Groveland, CA, on developing a trailer for the Genesis. Storage in the
trailer and assembly is conventional. All in all, we enjoyed out visit
to Northern California and meeting and racing against the best in the
United States.
